Unwanted outside noise can occur in homes by a highway, airport, or in a loud urban setting. This can have a significant impact on the enjoyment of your home, particularly if it disrupts your sleep. Windows are one of the biggest culprits for noise issues. Single pane glass and wood window frames are generally the least resistant to noise. Conversely, well designed replacement windows can reduce noise. One of the most important factors for reducing sound penetration is glass. Double glazed windows and vinyl frames can help.
STC is used to measure a window’s ability to reduce sound. The higher the rating, the better the sound control. The typical rating for single pane windows is 18-20 while a double glazed window is 28-32.
Quality windows can be used as a sound barrier for outside noise. Also consider the airspace between the glass panes. The closer the panes are to each other, the smaller the airspace and the more sound will pass through. PWD Offers 7/8, 1 1/8”, & 1 3/8” overall double glazed windows - offered with various pane thickness from 3 – 9mm thick. Laminated glass can also offer a slight STC improvement to your windows.
This remarkable glass is actually two sheets of glass permanently bonded to a tough, durable plastic interlayer. Laminated glass offers a significant contribution toward protecting your family and irreplaceable valuables. Laminated glass is also valuable in reducing sound transmission into your home. The plastic interlayer dampens the transmission of outdoor noise, traffic, overhead aircraft, lawn mowers, power tools, barking dogs and other sources of noise pollution!

Tempered Glass is heat-strengthened glass that is stronger and safer than regular annealed glass. In the case that tempered glass does break, the glass shatters into small pebbles that are void of dangerous sharp edges. Manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, VWD manufactures this process all in-house.
